WALT: write a recount
“Oh hurry up would you”. Yesterday the whole of Newmarket school went to this extraordinary Marae.
First we waited outside the gate for the old women to welcome us onto the Marae. (The welcome call in Maori is called a karanga)
Secondly when we were in the Marae some old people did a speech (which is a whaikorero). Emere’s papa did a speech to introduce us. Mat (who is the owner of the Marae) did a speech to welcome us.
After the last speech we went to eat outside in the wharekai. Our morning tea was one apple and two biscuits
Back at school we reflected on what we did at the Marae.
I loved going to Orakei Marae.
